Modern Solar powered water heaters for the home are a lot more efficient in comparison to the early models built back in 1970’s and 1980’s. Solar heating water for a home which is located in a moderate climate will now cost in the region of $1000 to $5000 with about a $50 annual maintenance cost. Bear in mind that maintenance costs for conventional gas and electric heaters are approximately $500 a year.

This means that after the payback period, you get an annual supply of hot water for about 50 bucks – sounds good to me.
