			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Solar RV fans</span></strong> are an essential piece of kit if you are going travelling for more than a few days or do a lot of cooking and washing inside your RV. The problem with cooking and washing is that it creates lots of nasty smells, steam and in turn is heating up your RV.</p>
<p>The steam can have a degrading effect on the interior paint work and fittings; it will age your vehicle prematurely and will leave unpleasant odors. Let alone the stale air you keep breathing in which is being re-circulated around your motor or the need for extracting the heat and cooling the air temperature.</p>
<p>When looking to install a ventilation fan into your RV, you need to consider these two points:</p>
<p>• What size fan do you need?</p>
<p>• How are you going to fit it?</p>
<p>Solar extractor products are measured in the amount of air it can extract per hour, so you are looking at cubic feet of air per hour. To calculate cubic feet, you multiply the height x width x length of the inside of your motor home together.</p>
<p>Then you need to work out how long it will take to replace the air. For example, if you had a product that can extract 500cb ft per hour. You would need to divide the cubic feet of your RV by 500 and then multiply by 60 to give you a figure in minutes.</p>
<p>You can get different size ventilators which have corresponding different size solar panels. For example a 12,000cb ft per hour vent would use a 100 watt panel.</p>
<p>Bear in mind that you can get extractor parts made from different materials, so if you live in a harsh climate or near the sea you might want to consider a stainless steel one.</p>
<p>The second point we now need to consider is how your are going to fit it. The most obvious place to site the electric fan is in the ceiling. However this is not as simple as it may seem. The <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/" target="_blank">disadvantages of solar</a> fans is that to fit it in the roof you have to cut a hole in your roof which is about 120mm in diameter. Unless you are pretty handy at doing DIY then I would suggest you get a professional to do the work for you.</p>
<p>If you are going to do it yourself, I suggest you do it by marking out the diameter of the whole you need; then use a 10mm drill and drill a series of holes inside the diameter of the circle you have scribed. Drill these wholes close together and then use a hacksaw to finish off the job.</p>
<p>Alternatively what you can do is fit the fan to a piece of hardboard and position it in the window of your door. As you wind the window up, you trap the hardboard in the window frame.</p>
<p>Finally, you are left with attaching the <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/home/rv-solar-panels/" target="_blank">RV solar panels</a>, read the instructions carefully and make sure the system is in the best position for absorbing as much energy from the sunlight as possible. There is not much in the way of electrical systems to worry about, all you have to do is connect the solar powered panel to the unit, and that is all there is to using <em>solar RV fans</em>.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">cheapest solar power systems</span></strong> are the systems that output the smallest amount of electricity. Therefore, buying cheap won’t necessarily give you what you want. There is an age old saying; you get what you pay for.</p>
<p>Before you start searching for the cheapest <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/build-solar-panel/monocrystalline-solar-panels/" target="_blank">solar electric panels</a>, systems and accessories such as an inverter, generator, battery or batteries (for off grid storage). You need to first calculate your energy requirements in watts. You can do this in a number of ways, you can go round and look at the wattage of all your appliances and add them up, or you can look at your electric meter and determine how many kilo watt hours you use per day on average and then multiply that figure by 10% to 25% just to give you a little to play with.</p>
<p>Once you know that figure then you can go and look for the cheapest products. You can get a 1.2 watt panel for $32, and you can get a 210 watt panel for $836, and there is a whole range of different sizes and prices in between.</p>
<p>However, when looking for the cheapest system you must remember that buying the products only accounts for half the cost. The other half of the cost is fitting the systems, paying contractors to install and wire them up to your home. If you do this job yourself, then you can make considerable savings or if not do it yourself then control the project. You might then want to spend a little more on getting more efficient panels and so generating more power for your buck.</p>
<p>Remember that you do not have to purchase and install all your panels at once. You can spread it over time, start small and inside your budget, and as you see the benefits in reduced energy bills and have new savings, then you can invest again and add another solar array or two. It is a fairly straight forward process of adding cells when you have the basic installation in place.</p>
<p>Build Your Own Homemade Solar Panel</p>
<p>Of course the ultimate way to save money is DIY. There are plenty of books around which will teach you how to make a solar panel and the pitfalls to look out for when building one. They do go into real detail so you can see exactly how to assemble the photovoltaic cell into an array and build a panel. They even explain where you can source the cheapest solar cells and find damaged ones which you can repair. Their efficiency won’t be as high as a factory made one though.</p>
<p>The down side here is that you&#8217;re exchanging time for money. If you have plenty of free time and are good with your hands then this could be a good option for you. This <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/" target="_blank">residential solar power system</a> is sitting on your house and is exposed to all the elements, so it has to be made waterproof else they won’t last.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The efficiency rating of solar panels is fairly low i.e. the amount of the suns energy converted into electricity. Depending on your situation it can range from 5% to 15%, although there have been some recent breakthroughs in technology which has increased this to 40%. However it will be some years before this technology becomes commercial available in the solar panels we fit to our homes.</p>
<p>When calculating how many solar panels you need for your home, you don’t need to be too concerned about the efficiency rating of your panel because photovoltaic solar panels are specified by their energy generating capacity. For example, 100 watt panels will output 100 watts of energy under ideal conditions. So if you are looking to produce 1kw per hr of energy you will need 10 x 100 watt panels.</p>
<p>Solar panels range in their energy output. Typically they range from 30 to 205 watts. If you are <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/home/build-solar-panel/" target="_blank">DIY</a> then pay special interest in calculating your energy requirements. If you are getting a company to draw up plans for you then they will take care of this calculation.</p>
<p>There are three main types of solar photovoltaic cells and these are polycrystalline, monocrystalline and thin film. Each has different efficiency ratings when converting the suns energy into electricity and they all have their pro’s and con’s.</p>
<p>The main difference between them is size and price. The more efficient technologies like <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/build-solar-panel/monocrystalline-solar-panels/" target="_blank">monocrystalline panels</a> are more efficient than the other two and so the panels are smaller and take up less space when comparing like for like in energy output but they are more expensive.</p>
<p>So before you decide which panels to go for, you need to calculate your energy requirements, establish how much you want to invest and then go and compare the different panels.</p>
<p>There are many other aspects that can affect the efficiency of your panels. We find the following to be the most common: how often you clean them, are they infrared, how much sun do they get and how hot do they get. It is a surprise to many people that for most panels their efficiency drops when the temperature starts to go above 25 Deg Celsius.</p>
<p>Keep in mind, in this article we have been talking about photovoltaic electrical solar power generation. If you want a hot water heater conversion then solar thermal panels are a lot more efficient.</p>
<p>In summary, on face value solar energy does not seem very efficient, although it is improving year on year. However, don’t get too tied up about the efficiency of the panels, focus more on the output, size and level of investment.</p>

<p>The problem for many people who want to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their energy bills by using solar power, is the cost of installing a system in their home as it can be frighteningly expensive. Most solar electric products seem to start at around $8000 for an average house, although this does include all the materials and fittings. Which is fine if you can afford it, but if you can&#8217;t what are your options – DIY or <strong>build a solar panel</strong>?</p>
<p>One of the cheapest options is to buy the photovoltaic solar panels and fit them yourself or an even cheaper option is to “<em>build a solar panel”</em>. I read about a couple of people who can build a 100 watt panel for about $200 and at this cost it fits into most people&#8217;s budgets. However, solar panels can seem a little complicated and where on earth do you start to go about building one?</p>
<p>I am not the most technical of people and anything to do with converting sunlight into electricity and electrical circuits, normally goes straight over the top of my head.</p>
<p>However, I had the good luck of reading about Michael Harvey who is a self proclaimed renewable energy enthusiast. He builds his own solar panels and got so good at it that he wanted to share his knowledge with the rest of us. Therefore, he wrote a book called Earth 4 Energy. It is a step by step guide to building your own solar powered electrical system for running electrical appliances inside your home. I have to say I am often disappointed with DIY books because for some reason they never get to show you, in detail, how to do the tricky bits.</p>
<p>However, with is book you can see exactly how to do it. The bit that concerned me the most about building my own solar panel was assembling and wiring the solar cells together because if you get this bit wrong then everything else is a complete waste of time. Well, I was so impressed with the two videos that came this eBook. You can see exactly how to assemble and solder the cells together, and in fact it is really simple, you don&#8217;t need any special skills and is simpler than assembling a flat packed bookshelf! This is the main reason why I feel very happy to recommend it to my readers.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>Knowing what to do with unused renewable electricity is always a dilemma – hooking up to the grid has to be the preferred option.</h2>
<p>If your residential home is grid tied, i.e. connected the electricity grid as opposed to off-grid and you are using <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/build-solar-panel/polycrystalline-solar-panels/" target="_blank">solar panels</a> to generate electricity. Then it makes a lot of sense to hook your solar panels to the grid, because instead of losing the unused electricity or having to maintain a bank of deep cycle batteries, you simply feed it back to the grid.</p>
<p>You feed electricity back to the grid via your electric meter which measures the electricity in Kilowatt per hour. This has the effect of reversing your meter which in turn reduces your electricity bills and if you are generating a lot of electricity you could find the utility company owing you money!</p>
<h3>The Solar Powered System</h3>
<p>Therefore, your solar powered installation would look like this. The <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/build-solar-panel/monocrystalline-solar-panels/" target="_blank">solar panel</a> will connect to an “array disconnect” – you need an array disconnect for system maintenance because it allows you to easily shut off the power.</p>
<p>The array disconnect is connected to an “inverter”. The solar panel generates DC power and the electricity from the grid is AC power. Therefore, you need an inverter to convert DC power to AC power.</p>
<p>The inverter is connected to an “AC breaker panel”. This is the interface where your solar generated electricity meets the electric meter and allows you to feed electricity back to the grid.</p>
<p>Now in most countries and states you are not allowed to tamper with the electric meter so at this point you should contact your local electricity energy supplier and ask them to supply an engineer to hook you up to the grid.</p>

<p>Thin film solar panels are one method of generating electric power from the sun that&#8217;s only come onto the market in recent years.&#160; They&#8217;re also called amorphous silicon photovoltaic cells, and they aren&#8217;t rigid, unlike traditional panels.&#160; They use an amorphous type of silicon instead of one or more crystals.&#160; These thin panels could end up replacing rigid <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/build-solar-panel/monocrystalline-solar-panels/" target="_blank">monocrystalline</a> and <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/build-solar-panel/polycrystalline-solar-panels/" target="_blank">polycrystalline</a> solar cell.&#160; Made of a silicon material placed between flexible laminate, steel or glass, this new type of panel has some real possibilities.&#160; Let&#8217;s take a look at the good and bad things about this new type of solar panel. </p>
<p>The most common and popular type of thin film solar panel is the flexible laminate type.&#160; That&#8217;s because they&#8217;re the most versatile.&#160; Their thin film allows them to be applied to almost all surfaces and to take up a lot less space than a traditional panel.&#160; They&#8217;ve even been used as a type of roofing material.&#160; Unlike rigid panel types, they don&#8217;t stand out, blending in better with the roof itself.&#160; They can actually be used instead of steel or shingles for roofing, creating an entire roof that generates power from sunlight. </p>
<p>However, there&#8217;s a reason why thin film <a href="http://www.solarpowerfast.com/home/build-solar-panel/" target="_blank">solar panels</a> haven&#8217;t replaced older types yet.&#160; They&#8217;re just not as efficient.&#160; With about a six percent conversion rate for energy drawn from the sun, they can only draw about half the wattage from sunlight that mono and polycrystalline panels do, making them take up twice as much installation space for the same amount of power.&#160; They do cost less, however.&#160; </p>
<p>Their thinner structure needs less material, allowing much cheaper panels to be produced.&#160; In terms of price per watt of power output, thin film panels are as high as other technologies, allowing budget conscious homeowners to pay less for their power generation.&#160; At about seven to ten dollars per watt, the costs are lower than the other solar panels on the market.&#160; The best known brand is probably UniSolar. </p>
<p>The less fragile nature of these panels also means they are unlikely to become damaged during shipping.&#160; Monocrystalline panels, by comparison, are especially fragile.&#160; For those who aren&#8217;t worried about space but are worried about what they&#8217;re paying for their solar power system, these are a great choice.&#160; You should be aware that their longevity may be questionable, though.&#160; There&#8217;s a possibility that they&#8217;ll hold up just as long as their competitors, but this technology is new and still hasn&#8217;t been well tested.&#160; A decrease in efficiency may occur over time. </p>
<p>One benefit of thin film solar panels that other types can&#8217;t offer is that they don&#8217;t suffer a decrease in output when temperatures go up.&#160; Some may even have a slight increase in their outputs.&#160; That&#8217;s impressive, since areas where sunlight is readily available are also usually hot.&#160; Because of this, thin film solar panels often have an actual output that&#8217;s very close to the one they&#8217;re rated for.&#160; This can make planning a solar power system much easier using this kind of panel.</p>
